Overview:
Hand rub, especially alcohol-based hand rub, is an essential method for maintaining hand hygiene in healthcare settings. It offers a quick and effective way to eliminate most microorganisms from the hands, especially when soap and water are not readily available.

Steps:
Apply a palmful of alcohol-based hand rub to cupped hand, covering all surfaces.
• Rub hands palm to palm.
• Rub the back of each hand with the palm of the other hand.
• Rub palm to palm with fingers interlaced.
• Rub the backs of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked.
• Rub each thumb rotationally.
• Rub tips of fingers in the opposite palm in a circular motion.
• Continue rubbing until hands are completely dry (approximately 20–30 seconds).

Importance:
• Effectively reduces the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
• Saves time and can be used conveniently in clinical situations.
• Protects both patients and healthcare workers by minimizing cross-contamination.
• Encourages compliance with hygiene protocols due to its simplicity and speed.

Conclusion:
Proper use of hand rub plays a vital role in infection control. Mastering the technique and understanding its significance helps ensure safe healthcare practices and promotes a culture of cleanliness and responsibility.
